Congratulations to our HHS Science Olympiad team for their performance at ATX! For those who participated in the competition, please make sure you pay the $10 participation fee to Mr. Dang, either through cash/check or through the PayPal that Mr. Dang will be setting up in the near future.
Reminder: The second round of tryouts will be starting this week! Make sure you check the Tryouts section on the 2020-2021 page for updated instructions and a list of events that will be testing this week. We recommend that you prepare your tryouts folders before Friday, so that you have them ready when testing begins. Also, keep in mind that this round of tryouts will be considered more heavily than the first round back in October. Happy studying, and best of luck to everyone at tryouts!

Today was the first week of tryouts. The second week of tryouts will take place in mid-November.
If you were not able to make it today, make-ups will be held tomorrow (Saturday, 10/17/20) at 3:00 PM on the general meet link. Your event proctors will be Alexander Lin and Nipun Banerjee. Those who have previously emailed us about needing make-ups should have received an email with more information about this. Some quick reminders: If you haven't already, you MUST send any notes you used during tryouts to your event proctor. This is an important way for us to catch cheating. We will not be using your notes for any other purpose. PLEASE READ AND FOLLOW DIRECTIONS CAREFULLY WHEN TESTING FOR TRYOUTS! It makes things more difficult for us when you don't follow the directions and use the right format, and it can even give you an unfair advantage (e.g. if you typed your answers instead of writing them on paper). ATX is next weekend. The roster has already been sent out; it has also been linked to the 2020-2021 page under the Competitions subheading. If you're on the team for ATX, make sure you start studying and coordinating with your partner. If you're not on the team this time, don't worry! You will have plenty of other opportunities to compete. Because of how early ATX is, we were only able to take veteran members, but we will be incorporating new members onto our team(s) at future competitions. Please visit the website regularly for important information and updates! The 2020-2021 page now has up-to-date information on tryouts and the upcoming ATX competition. This Announcements page is also updated weekly. Make sure you have paid the $50 activity fee in Genesis. The school requires all of us to pay this fee in order to participate in any school clubs. Tryouts will resume in mid-November. Until then, keep studying! We'll see you next Friday at 2:30 PM for our weekly meeting. Some quick updates/reminders:
Tryouts will start next Friday, 10/16/20. All of the information for tryouts this year has been and will continue to be added to the Tryouts section on the 2020-2021 page, so make sure you look through the information there. Also, please fill out the Tryouts form by 11:59 PM this Friday, 10/9/20! Our first competition, the ATX invitational, is on October 23-24. Fill out the ATX Interest form by 11:59 PM this Friday, 10/9/20, to indicate your interest in participating in this competition. This Friday's meeting will not be mandatory. Event leaders will be holding review sessions for their events, so come if you have any questions about your events or about tryouts as a whole. Hope to see you then! As always, reach out to your event leaders and officers with any questions. Thanks for coming to our fourth HHS Scioly meeting, and our third and final meeting with lessons!
Reminders: If you will be absent for any meeting, you must email the officers (and copy Mr. Dang in your email) at [email protected] at least 1 hour before the start of the meeting. We consider attendance during tryouts. If you have received homework assignments, make sure you complete and submit them to your event leaders before the next meeting or by the specified due date. Homework completion and participation during meetings will be considered when we are building rosters. Announcements: Tryouts will start on 10/16. They will be at competition-level difficulty, so make sure you're studying on your own. We will be sending a comprehensive email this weekend about how tryouts will run. If you still have unanswered questions after the email has been sent, you can email your captains. Members who make it onto the HHS Science Olympiad team will have to pay a $10 participation fee. Do not worry about this fee yet. We will only be asking for it after we have conducted tryouts and formed rosters. However, you do have to pay the school's $50 activity fee if you have not already done so. The activity fee is not unique to Science Olympiad; you have to pay it if you are participating in any clubs at school. You can pay via Genesis (log in to your Genesis account and go to the Fees and Fines tab for more information). It is a flat fee, so you only have to pay once per year. You should receive an email from all of your event leaders sometime over the weekend detailing what they did during Friday's meeting and what you should do for next week. If you do not receive this email for any of your events, please email your event leader to let them know. As always, if you have any questions, you can direct them via email to your event leaders or captains. Happy studying! Our next meeting will be at 2:30 PM next Friday, 10/9. See you then! Thanks for coming to our third HHS Scioly meeting (and our second meeting with lessons)!
Some reminders about meetings, events, absences, HW, etc.: If you have event conflicts, do NOT attend multiple events at once. Your event leaders will send you what you missed after the meeting. If you would like to change, add, or drop events, please email the relevant event leaders. If you don't remember which events you signed up for, you can check the Events Signup Public document; the link is posted on the 2020-2021 page under the Events subheading. If you will be absent for any meeting, you must email the officers (and copy Mr. Dang in your email) at [email protected] at least 1 hour before the start of the meeting. We consider attendance during tryouts. If you have received homework assignments this week, make sure to complete and submit them to your event leaders before the next meeting or by the specified due date. Make sure that you are studying outside of meetings! While it is necessary to know the information give by your leaders, it is impossible for them to teach the entirety of the event in just three weeks. Tryouts will be at competition-level difficulty. Check out the Resources page on this website or any resources that your event leaders have recommended for helpful study materials. Tryouts are tentatively scheduled to start on 10/16. They will be conducted virtually, and they will most likely take place throughout the weekend. Some events that will not be running under the Mini SO model may or may not conduct tryouts in October. Event leaders will not be making the tryout tests, as they will also be participating in tryouts. More information about tryouts will be announced as they approach. By now, you should have received an email from all of your event leaders sometime over the weekend detailing what they did during Friday's meeting and what you should do for next week. If you have not received this email for any of your events, please email the relevant event leaders to let them know. If you have any questions about your events, you can contact your event leaders. If you have any questions about the club or administration, you can contact your captains. Happy studying! Our next meeting will be at 2:30 PM this Friday, 10/2. It will also be the last day of lessons. We hope to see you then! Thanks for coming to today's meeting!
For those who were not able to attend, we met at 2:30 PM for a general meeting, and to answer some questions. At 2:45 PM, we split off into individual events according to the Events Meeting Schedule (on the 2020-2021 page and Meet Links page) and using the individual event leaders' meet links (on the Meet Links page and Contact page). Event leaders introduced their events and began lessons. For more information about how the meeting schedule and the blocks work, check the email sent yesterday titled "Meeting This Friday!" If you were unable to meet with all of your event leaders at today's meeting, don't worry about it! You should receive an email from all your event leaders sometime today detailing what they did during the meeting and what (if anything) you should do for next week. If you do not receive this email for any of your events, OR if you want to join a new event or change your current events, please email the relevant event leaders to let them know. If you have any questions about your events, you can contact your event leaders. If you don't remember which events you signed up for, you can check the Events Signup Public document; the link is posted on the 2020-2021 page under the Events subheading. Happy studying! We'll see you again next Friday at 2:30 PM! Last week's post: 9/11/20 Thanks for coming to our first meeting today! For those who were not able to attend, we went through an Intro to Scioly 2021 presentation to learn about what Science Olympiad is and how you can be part of it. Please try to fill out the Events Signup Form by 11:59 PM on Sunday, 9/13/20. You should read through the 2020-2021 Rules Manual to learn about the events before you decide which ones you want to compete in.
