EVENTS
Here is the 2020-2021 Division C Events List. This list includes all of this year's 23 main events. It does not account for any of the modifications included in the miniSO model. Click here to see the 2020-2021 Rules Manual. The Rules Manual contains a list of events and their descriptions, as well as the official rules for each event. You may find it helpful to use the Rules Manual as a checklist or springboard for your research. For build events especially, make sure you read the rules carefully! Click here to see the MiniSO Event Chart. The Event Chart shows which events have been modified or removed under the MiniSO model. Check the Event Chart to see if your events will still run virtually or if they have any modifications or replacements. Here is a list of the events everyone has signed up for along with a summary of the spread: Event Signups Public |

Each event will test twice: once in October and once in November. Events: Only the events that are still running under the MiniSO model will be tested, excluding Digital Structures, Gravity Vehicle, and Write It CAD It (see the MiniSO Event Chart in the Events section above). In other words, Write It Do It and Experimental Design WILL be running tryouts, but Boomilever, Gravity Vehicle, Wright Stuff, and Ping Pong Parachute will NOT. (Tryouts for these events will be held at a later date.) For hybrid events, you will need to submit a written build design toward the end of tryouts. Events that will be tested on 11/6: Astronomy, Anatomy & Physiology, Circuit Lab, Designer Genes, Disease Detectives, Experimental Design, Ornithology, Protein Modeling, Water Quality Events that will be tested on 11/13: Chemistry Lab, Codebusters, Detector Building, Dynamic Planet, Forensics, Fossils, Geologic Mapping, Machines, Sounds of Music, Write It Do It Procedures: Each test will be proctored through Google Meet. The proctor will NOT be the event leader. Everyone will be required to have their cameras on and microphones off for the duration of the test. Your responses should be on paper. Please follow all directions given to you by your event proctor. The tests will be carefully timed, and timestamps on all submissions will be checked to catch cheating. For November's round of tryouts, you will have 50 minutes to complete each test, plus 5 minutes afterward to submit your answers and work. Before testing starts, create a new folder entitled "(Your first and last name)_(Event name)_2" for each event. Place a copy of your notes for each event in the appropriate folder. To submit your answers, take clear pictures of all of your answers/work and place all of the pictures in the folder, then share the folder with the event proctor. Make sure you add the proctor as an editor and check the “Notify people” box. example of folder name: Amy Wang_Experimental Design_2 You will be allowed to use notes in accordance with your specific event rules. You are not required to print out notes/binders, but your notes must still obey the restrictions in the Rules Manual (e.g. for Ornithology, your digital notes must be a number of pages that can fit in a 2" binder). No other resources, including the Internet, are allowed. Remember to place a copy of your notes into your folders, along with pictures of your work and answers, before you submit. If you run into technical issues during tryouts, notify your event proctor immediately through the chat on Google Meet. If you are unable to reach your event proctor through Google Meet, email your captains as soon as possible to let them know that you are having technical issues. |
COMPETITIONS
ATX Invitational The competition will take place from 4:30 PM on Friday, 10/23/20 to 8:30 PM on Saturday, 10/24/20. Here is the ATX Roster for the HHS team. Partners will be able to take the test at any time within the testing period, but the test must be finished within the allotted time. Partners can discuss during exams over audio/video on virtual platforms and should coordinate a time to take the exam together. While taking the test, partners will be able to work on problems together and see each other's answers instantly. More information can be found on ATX Science Olympiad's website. |
